Duncan
(Donner
Bube –
Smart Bess xx)
This 2007 gelding is a full brother to
Dontcha Knowit (nicknamed Jazz) who is showing in dressage in
B.C., earning 2 firsts and 2 seconds with a new rider in 2009,
and that after producing a foal in 2008.
His pedigree contains the ancestors of top
horses in all three Olympic disciplines as well as show hunters.
His
conformation indicates that he is built to find almost
any request easy to perform, but he will be limited in sports
where movement at the walk is judged. Take him jumping and don’t
look back.
The owners of his siblings consistently
comment on the great temperaments.
Trainer’s perspective:
He is a bit shy but warms up to new things
quickly. He’s
curious and loves attention.
Duncan
ties and stands well for grooming, clipping and saddling.
He lunges in both directions.
Veterinary note:
“He has ossifying fibrotic myopathy. The
classic condition affects the walk, but is not visible at the
trot or canter, and does not impede jumping, etc.” Roxy Bell,
DVM
He warms out of the unusual movement at the
walk to a great extent, as do other performance horses with this
condition. For example: Priobert
de Kalvarie, Leslie Howard’s grand prix jumper, competed
successfully for years with a similar condition.
